Barclays Invests in Digital Money Clearing Platform Ubyx
Barclays has taken a strategic stake in Ubyx Inc., a New York and London-based clearing system for tokenized deposits and regulated stablecoins. The platform aims to bridge multiple issuers with receiving institutions in a unified settlement environment, addressing the growing need for interoperability in digital assets.
"Interoperability is essential to unlock the full potential of digital assets," said Ryan Hayward, Barclays' head of digital assets. The investment reflects mounting institutional interest in blockchain-based money forms as regulatory frameworks mature globally.
Ubyx CEO Tony McLaughlin emphasized bank participation is critical for par value redemption through regulated channels, noting: "We are entering a world where every regulated firm will offer digital wallets alongside traditional accounts."
